LIFE IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES WHAT? MONDAY

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Here in Dogtown it continues to rain. I'm fascinated by the way one frog will croak out a particular word or phrase, and then all the other frogs follow suit. The first night of heavy rains, they all said, Damn, Damn. Last night they started with Dancer, Dancer, and then moved on to Attack the Earth, Attack the Earth.

I haven't seen another regular cockroach, but last night when I was getting the Z Boys in after their final visit to the great outdoors, two palmetto bugs ran in, screaming, We can't stand more rain. I screamed, Bastards! and ran after them with the vacuum cleaner and sucked them up successfully, completely forgetting that Little Chick had given me a nice can of buy spray.

Tonight I shall be prepared. When I open the door for the boys, I'll have the can in my hand. Just in case.

Now over in Gumption we have a What? Monday question.

Forrest Gump: What's my destiny, Mama?
Mrs. Gump: You're gonna have to figure that out for yourself

Today's What? Monday question is Do you have a destiny, or are you blowing through life likes a feather?

Here's my answer: God gave humankind the freedom to make choices, but God knows what we will choose. Therefore, nothing is an accident. Nothing is coincidental. Sometimes I feel as if I'm a feather, blowing from one place to another, but God helps me make decisions if I listen to Her. She always knows where I'm going. If I get off track, then She brings me back to my destiny. But since I don't have a crystal ball that allows me to see my fate, Life remains a constant surprise.

Now, how about you?

Do you have a destiny, or are you blowing through life likes a feather?

I look forward to reading your answers. You are such interesting people, with many different ways of thinking.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. I like to think my destiny is to be successful in life and to achieve every goal I set for myself :)

but, from time to time I like to be the feather, blowing through life :)

    I loved your answer :)

    take care,

  2. Written like a true earth loving hippy... well except for that part about sucking up the bugs in your modern death machine!! Then again, you can always blame it on the frogs. I mean, if I heard something a hundred times larger than myself screaming Attack the Earth, I might run for shelter too!!

Thanks for checking out my blog. I will definitely follow you too!!

(Just remind me to stay on your good side. I don't want to end up in the vacuum cleaner!)

    1. Welcome, Child of the Earth. I only use my death machine to suck up things I haven't invited to join me. So it sucks up dirt, dog hair, palmetto bugs, and an occasional dragon. I'll never allow it to attack you.

  3. Blowing through life like a feather is not a saying I have heard but I guess it suits me I usually say I drift through life just going with the flow..........I have never been an ambitious person. That said I do think God knows where we are going with our life and maybe some things are destined to be..........

    1. Hi Jo-Anne! I said a feather because of the feather that blows around in the movie Forrest Gump.

  4. I believe you are dealt one hand... that is your destiny. What you make of that hand, weather you play it the best way, you fold completely, or play your own game.... that is what keeps you light as a feather. :)

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run... (sing with me)

    1. Awwwww, Juli, shame on you. Now that song will be in my head all evening. How will I sleep tonight with that song and all the croaking? I wonder what they'll say tonight. Attack the Earth was pretty interesting.

    1. Again, you've made me smile, but you fly like a beautiful brightly colored bird.

  6. More like a kite. I have a tether, but I float around in the ether. Not too concerned about destiny, "best laid plans" and all. Wherever I go, it'll be there.

  7. Light as a feather, that's me.

More interesting is that your post is dated Monday, tomorrow. How do you arrange that on a Sunday chica?

    1. Mi Amiga, I wave my purple glittery magic wand over my laptop and recite a spell from Harry Potter. Then I write the post. Then I click Publish. Then I go to my list of posts and click on Edit for the post I just published. Then I schedule the post to be published on Monday. That way it says Monday (since it's a What? Monday post), but I send my baby into the world on Sunday night. Then I go to bed.

      Te amo,
      Chica

  8. I've never been one to plan the next 10 minutes, let alone a lifetime, but things worked out very well! How about I plant another old somg in your mind, "Breezin' Along With the Breeze"? You can alternate that with "The Gambler".

I'm not afraid of your vacuum cleaner, but we have one, too--& my husband knows how to work it!

    1. I thank God I do not know that song. And I had forgotten about The Gambler until someone brought it up again.

  9. Yep, I definitely remember all of the "God knows what you will choose, but He doesn't make you choose it" free will thing from Paradise Lost, which I know you have read! (I bs-ed a whole essay about Eve and free will. Got an A!)

That being said, I don't think I have some magical destiny to change the world or anything. I just make choices I want to (usually.)

    1. I read the Bible before I read Paradise Lost. I wrote my major paper on P.L. about Abdiel, the angel who leaves Satan's band (he was the trombonist) to be the tattletale. Abdiel is not an angel in the Bible, and God is not a She in the Bible or P.L. I have enough free will to figure out some stuff but still remain -- I hope -- where God wants me to be. I'm not magical, but every little bit I can do for good and for God helps. You are the second person to tell me you've never seen Forrest, Forrest Gump. I think you can survive without it.

  11. I think there are times in life where you just blow with the wind, waiting for the right path to open up to you. Then you can hoist up your boot straps and take your path until you are carried away by the wind again. At the moment, I'm on the path and loving it, but I also know the calm in the wind is a great time for learning and meditating on where I've been and where I may go next. :)

  13. I think of my life as more of a journey quest. I have always been headed in a basic direction. Sometimes I veer off my path for a while, or stop and rest for periods of time, but then I always get back on track. My quest has always been for as long as I can remember (five years old) to figure out how to be the best person I can be down here in this complex, complicated world. Not an easy task--and the focus has never been with jobs, money, circumstances, events, or other people's opinions or actions...it's always been beyond that for me.

But I would be at the door with the vacuum in hand. ;)
